History helps us better understand the struggles and victories of the LGBTQ+ community which increases respect for the people in our diverse community, allows us communicate to non-LGBTQ+ folks about our needs, and for our allies to better support the rights and freedoms of queers by combatting discrimination and prejudice. Learning our history also helps us to better understand the social and political progress of our society and to celebrate the contributions that our queer elders have made to our culture!
